War memorabilia is scattered through the scrapbooks, with poems and clippings, photographs and souvenirs (such as a post card of British war heroine Edith Cavell's memorial - shown left). At war's end Montgomery even kept track of a movie called The Empire's Shield, filmed during the war and introduced by Ewan's old colleague and now war veteran himself, the Rev. Edwin Smith.
