Further Chronicles of Avonlea
Further Chronicles of Avonlea (1920)
Published by the L.C. Page Company without Montgomery's consent, these stories
were ones excluded from Chronicles of Avonlea in 1912. Montgomery
brought an injunction against the book and sued for damages to her literary
reputation. After eight and half years she won her case and was given the
unsold copies of the book along with $18,000 in damages (she spent $15,000
in legal fees). Part of her case depended on the image on the cover of the
book. Page had agreed originally to make no references to Anne in the book;
however, he changed his mind and, along with other references, used a cover
with an Anne-like, red-haired woman. |
