Description A black and white photograph of Hanako Muraoka. 
Narrative Hanako Muraoka introduced the Japanese people to L.M. Montgomery when her translation of Anne of Green Gables was published in 1952. In 1939, an English edition of the book was given to Hanako Muraoka by a Canadian missionary, Miss Loretta Leonard Shaw, and Muraoka spent the duration of World War II secretly translating the text.
