Description Magazine photograph of a pond.
Narrative Macneill's Pond, one of two ponds in Cavendish, is commonly thought to be The Lake of Shining Waters written about in Anne of Green Gables. Although Montgomery admits in her journal that her unconscious memory of the Cavendish pond likely affected her description of the fictional pond, Anne's Lake of Shining Waters is the Campbell Pond at Park Corner. Montgomery's cousin and friend Amanda Macneill lived near Macneill's Pond, also seen in the cyanotype on the right-hand side of this scrapbook page.
