Narrative The Cavendish Literary Magazine was a publication of the Cavendish Literary Society, a community organization that held debates, readings, and lectures. Though Cavendish was a rural community, its inhabitants were generally well-educated and well-read. The inside of the magazine mock-up has a table of contents that lists Montgomery's short story "The Strike at Putney Church," which would be published later that same year by the Western Christian Advocate. The table of contents also lists "The Reflections of a Bachelor Gal" by "Cynthia," an old pen-name of Montgomery's from her stint with the Halifax Daily Echo in 1901.
