Description Piece of tree bark with a poetic quotation.
Narrative Montgomery's PEI scrapbooks are filled with personal souvenirs such as this piece of tree bark. The quotation written on the bark is by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, author of "Evangeline." In autumn 1895, while Montgomery was attending Dalhousie College in Halifax, she had a "Big Week," receiving payment for three pieces of writing. She spent her first cheque on five volumes of poetry, including one of Longfellow's poetry.
