Narrative John Mustard was Montgomery's school teacher from 1890-91, the year she spent living with her father in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Mr. Mustard pursued his young pupil, calling frequently at Eglinton Villa, but Montgomery rejected his proposal of marriage. Mr. Mustard would go on to pursue the ministry and he and Montgomery would meet again in 1911.
