Description Black and white photographic postacard of a hotel lobby.
Narrative Ewan and Maud Macdonald stayed in the Russell Hotel in London while on their honeymoon. The hotel, designed by architect Fitzroy Doll and built at the end of the nineteenth century, is located in Russell Square, a location made famous by William Makepeace Thackeray's novel Vanity Fair. Montgomery noted in her journal that she almost expected to see the novel's characters walking about the square.
